Photographic Exhibition by Jean-Michel Gires Presents Another Reason to Connect

December 2, 2011 - On November 24, Total E&P Canada hosted a unique event for its stakeholders in Calgary to kick off the holiday season. The event featured a photographic exhibit by Jean-Michel Gires, President & CEO of Total E&P Canada. This is the second year that Total E&P Canada has hosted an event featuring Jean-Michel Gires’ photos. This year, Water Creations presented the photographer’s graphical and impressionist interpretations of a series of water reflections, one of our most important resources, vital to sustaining life on Earth.

In 2010, the event featured a series of photographs entitled Reflections on Calgary, which showcased the city skyline. This year’s Water Creations played host to over 200 stakeholders at Ki Modern Japanese Restaurant. Jean-Michel Gires was very pleased to welcome Total’s guests. “This event is not just about the art, it’s an opportunity to meet, exchange, and share with our stakeholders,” said Jean-Michel Gires.

Jean-Michel Gires has a career-long history in the petroleum industry and is an engineer by training. He has traveled the world on numerous expatriate assignments, exploring seven countries so far. Jean-Michel Gires took up digital photography ten years ago as an easy and enjoyable way to document his travels abroad and share his experiences with friends and family. What began as a hobby quickly evolved into a passion. By way of sharing what he has seen, Jean-Michel Gires published Voyage numérique au Venezuela (Digital Travels in Venezuela) in 2002 and Impressions numériques (Digital Impressions) in France in 2005.

Water Creations also provided a unique fundraising opportunity for Total. Guests were able to make a donation to United Way Calgary and Area and receive a print of their choice in return. Total’s generous guests contributed over $6,500 and Total has pledged to match these donations, bringing in a total of over $13,000 for organizations throughout Calgary that benefit from United Way.
