Health and Safety
The nature of our operations and scope of their potential impact require us to strive for the highest standards in health, safety, the environmental (HSE) performance. We operate under both government regulation and internal policies. Total E&P Canada’s HSE and SD Charter guides our employee and contractors day-to-day activities. In all our operations, we implement appropriate management policies regarding safety, health, environment and quality risks, which are assessed regularly. No project may be developed without a risk assessment spanning its entire life cycle.
We work to ensure there is an open and constructive dialogue around health and safety with employees and outside parties. Regular employee training is provided to increase awareness around these issues.
Our objective is an incident free workplace. Prevention is a top priority and our policies are rooted in a shared safety culture. The health and well-being of all personnel is also of paramount importance, as we believe that having a healthy mind and body is key to ensuring that our projects are safe.
Safety Initiatives at Total E&P Canada
Standing Down for Safety at Joslyn
Total participates in the annual Safety Stand Down Week, sponsored by Enform
, a Canadian health and safety service provider to the upstream industry. Each year our senior executives visit Total field employees and contractors, who temporarily cease operations (i.e. "stand down") in order to discuss safety and raise awareness around safety issues.
Total employees and contractors also mark the North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) week, which coincides with World Safety Day during the month of April.
Management and employees share a common stewardship commitment to world-class HSE performance.
In 2007, Total established the President’s Awards for HSE Excellence. The awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of our HSE systems and programs.
