Total University

Canadian Students and Professors Attend Université Total in Paris

Total is fully involved in society’s debates on energy issues. We created Université Total in 2005 as a forum for discussing issues related to Total’s businesses, and to strengthen ties with the academic world.  Since the doors opened, some 9,000 people have attended one of university’s programs. Total subsidiaries can send participates to annual seminars where professors and students from educational institutes all over the globe come together to exchange ideas and information on the challenges facing the energy industry.

Total is a company that says we need to know what the current thinking is both from the young emerging population of students and also from their teachers and research directors who are leading edge and driving new technology.

Total Summer School in Paris

Each summer, Total E&P Canada is able to send Canadian university students to the week-long Total Summer School in Paris. They join students from around the world to learn more about Total’s professions, businesses, and technology.

The school also gives students the opportunity to discuss key issues and major challenges related to energy with Total executives, and experts from the world of industry and research.

Since 2007, Total E&P Canada has sent 14 students from 5 schools to the Total Summer School. The class of 2009 included students from 23 countries.

Total Summer School's main objectives are:

  • Provide an overview of the strategy and management issues facing a major international energy company
  • Open a window to the working world (enrolment in the Summer School can be combined with internships at Total)
  • Foster awareness of the wealth of international and cultural diversity

Total Energy and Education Seminar for University Professors

Each year, Total E&P Canada has the opportunity to send Canadian professors to Paris for the weeklong Energy and Education Seminar. The participants, most of who specialize in scientific fields related to energy, exchange views with Total senior executives and external experts. In 2007, Total E&P Canada sponsored three Alberta professors to attend the seminar.
